FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WV News) — Prospective graduates of Pierpont Community & Technical College’s School of Health Science were recognized during a pinning ceremony Wednesday, culminating years of dedication, preparation and hard work.
The ceremony and pinning ritual represent the transformation that students undergo from academia to careers as health- care professionals. Each pin symbolizes the completion of rigorous academic and clinical training and is designed to instill pride, responsibility and commitment to their professions.
More than 40 students were recognized for their achievements Wednesday evening, applauded by an audience of family members and friends. Several students also were recognized for their induction into the Phi Tau Alpha Honor Society for Physical Therapist Assistant Students and into Lambda Beta, which is the National Honor Society for the Profession of Respiratory Care.
“There are few moments more rewarding than witnessing the completion of years of dedication and perseverance from our remarkable students,” Pierpont School of Health Sciences Dean Amy Cunningham said. “They have evolved from eager learners into caring professionals prepared to make a meaningful impact on health care. It was an immense privilege to preside over the pinning ceremony and bear witness to the years of hard work from our students.”
For many students, the ceremony signifies the peak of their academic journey, one that is often filled with challenges, adversity and sacrifices necessary to achieve their goals.
“Our students have spent countless hours of study, clinical rotations and personal sacrifices to reach this moment,” Cunningham said. “Faculty have witnessed their growth, triumphs and resilience and are confident in their ability to represent the highest standards of the health- care profession.”
The students represented programs in health information technology, health sciences, medical laboratory technology, physical therapist assistant, respiratory care and veterinary technology, as well as several certificate and advanced skill set programs.
“Our community needs each one of you,” Pierpont President Dr. Milan Hayward said. “Not just the occupation and specialty you represent, but your spirit, your pride, and your care and concern for one another and our community.”
Pierpont’s commencement ceremony is set for 6:30 p.m. May 10 at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center in Clarksburg.
